Fold the Napkins Twice
Choose and get two square napkins. They could be cloth or paper. Then find a suitable place to work.
And then lay one napkin on top of the other. In this example, aqua and yellow napkins were chosen.
Then fold the napkin lengthwise by bringing the left edge to the right edge.
Next, fold the napkin crosswise by bringing the bottom edge to the top Great job! Now, it's time to move to the next steps.
Diagonally Fold the Sides
Orient the napkin so that it will look like a diamond.
Fold the left edge diagonally towards the right. Just enough for the left corner to touch the right edge.
And then fold the corner towards the outside. So that your napkin would like the image above.
Then, do the same exact process for the right corner.
Unfold the Layers
Flip the napkin over. It should look like in the image above. Be careful not to mess up the napkin.
Focus on the bottom part of the napkin now. Fold the top layer upwards.
And then fold the two layers beneath the first layer that you folded previously. Congratulations! You have finished making this Sydney Opera House. And if you would like to learn about other folds take a look at the articles below.
Extra Tips
- You can iron the napkin first.
- Starching is also an option but that depends on the napkin. If the napkin is too thin and cannot hold the shape of the opera napkin fold, then starch it. First, wash the cloth napkin as you normally do. Spray it with ready-made starch spray or make your own by mixing starch and water. Evenly spray coat the napkin with starch and then iron the napkin on an ironing board. By the way, if you're planning to starch the napkin, make sure that it's cloth or linen.
- An easy alternative to starched cloth is a thick paper napkin. What's nice about paper napkin is that it comes in different designs!
- If you don think that it could get better then it probably could. This is a hard fold but you can do it well!
